Accessibility
We want everyone in a golf group to be able to use Golf Champs, whatever device they use and however they use it. This statement covers the website at golfchamps.app: the home page, the guides, the help centre, the rules page and the short notices like this one. It says where we are today, honestly, including what isn’t good enough yet.
It does not cover the Golf Champs app at app.golfchamps.app. We haven’t checked the app to the same standard yet, and we’ll extend this statement when we have.
What we’re aiming for
Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We aren’t there on every page yet. The gaps we know about are listed below.
What we’ve done so far
- We ran automated accessibility checks (axe-core) on the home page, the guides and the help centre at phone and desktop widths, and fixed what they found. The main fixes were colour contrast and text size in the how-it-works diagram on the home page. In our latest check those pages showed no automated issues.
- On phones, the menu is a proper button. It tells screen readers whether it’s open or closed, works from the keyboard, closes with the Escape key and puts focus back on the button.
- Every field in the waitlist form has a label that screen readers announce.
- The home page, the guides and the help centre start with a “Skip to content” link for keyboard users.
- If your device is set to reduce motion, the looping clip at the top of the home page doesn’t play and the page doesn’t scroll smoothly.
- The walkthrough film on the home page and the guides page has English captions.
- Every page declares that it’s in English, so screen readers read it with the right pronunciation.
Automated checks only catch some problems. We haven’t yet had the site reviewed by an accessibility specialist or tested by people who use screen readers or other assistive technology. That’s on our list.
Known gaps
- The rules page (/rules). It fails several automated checks: low-contrast text in its tables, seven calculator inputs without labels, a scrolling table that can’t be reached by keyboard, some links that stand out by colour alone, and missing page landmarks. We’re rewriting this page. Until then, if any of it is hard to use, email us and we’ll explain the rules another way.
- Films. Only the walkthrough film has captions. The short explainer films in the guides and the film library don’t have captions or transcripts yet. The looping clip at the top of the home page has no sound.
- The app. As above, the app isn’t covered by this statement yet.
Tell us about a problem
If something on the site is hard to use, or you need information in a different format, email hello@golfchamps.app. It helps to tell us:
- the page (a link is perfect),
- what you were trying to do and what got in the way,
- the device and browser you were using, and any assistive technology such as a screen reader or magnifier.
A real person reads every message, and we’ll reply.
