Beats and Triggers: every round moves your balance
Every round moves your balance. Cross the top line and you beat it. Cross the bottom line and you trigger, and you owe the pot.
Your balance
Everything in a round moves one number: your balance. Good golf pushes it up. Your own blunders and your mates’ raids push it down. Your group’s line sits the same distance above zero and below it, and your organiser sets it at the start of the season.
Beat
Cross the top line and you’ve beaten it: 3 GC points. The line comes off your balance, and anything over it carries on.
Trigger
Cross the bottom line and you trigger: you lose 3 GC points and you owe the pot. That’s where a lot of the trip money comes from.
The Danger Zone
Raids can push you past the bottom line between rounds, but a raid can’t trigger you on its own. You’re in the Danger Zone, and your next round (or the end of the period) decides it. Play a good one and you climb back out.
GC points run the season
- Beat: plus 3.
- Survive, a round that crosses neither line: plus 1.
- Trigger: minus 3.
The GC points ladder decides the Season Champion. Balances reset at the end of every period; GC points build all season.
Good to know
Can I beat more than once in a period?
Yes, and you can trigger more than once too.
What’s a period?
A slice of the season, usually a month. Balances reset at the end of each one.
Can a raid trigger me?
Not by itself. It puts you in the Danger Zone, and your next round (or the end of the period) decides it.
How does the Double Flag change this?
A flagged round counts double: a beat is worth 6 GC points, and a trigger costs 6. See The Double Flag.
Every number and every edge case is on the rules page.
