Blunders: some holes bite back

A blow-up comes off your own balance, and the better you are, the more it costs. Everyone sees it land.

How a blunder works

Blunders are the other side of raids. When your card shows a blow-up, the app takes a slice off your own balance. Nobody else’s balance moves. It lands in the Blunders feed with its name on it, so the group knows exactly what happened, and the group cheers a blow-up.

The blunders

Every blunder is read in stableford points, so it’s measured against your own handicap. A wipe is a hole worth zero points: net double bogey or worse, pickups included.

  • Meltdown: six or more wipes in a round.
  • Nine from Hell: nine points or fewer on either nine. Do it on both and it lands twice.
  • The Collapse: 16 or more points on one nine and 11 or fewer on the other.
  • Bogey Streak: four or more holes in a row at a point or less.
  • On Tilt: three wipes in a row, anywhere in the round.
  • The Quitter: nothing on each of your last three holes.
  • Range Was Shut: a cold start, three points or fewer across your first three holes with no net birdie among them.
  • Plane to Catch: the same on the way in, across your last three holes.
  • All Show No Go: a net birdie, then a point or less across the next two holes.
  • Too Close to the Sun: a net eagle, then a wipe on the very next hole.
  • Home Disgrace: a poor round at your own home course.

The better you are, the more it costs

Every blunder is scaled to your handicap: 1.5 times for a scratch player, easing down to half for the highest markers. A low marker shouldn’t be wiping holes, so it costs them more. A high marker’s round is naturally up and down, so it costs them less.

New group?

Your organiser can switch blunders off while a new group finds its feet, and switch them back on when everyone’s ready.

Good to know

Does a blunder hurt anyone else?

No. It only comes off your own balance.

Can one round fire more than one blunder?

Yes. Some overlaps are ruled out: a cold start that is also a bogey streak counts as the bogey streak. Others stack, like the Quitter inside a Meltdown.

Does a pickup count as a wipe?

Yes. Any hole worth zero stableford points is a wipe.

Can we play without blunders?

Yes. Your organiser can switch them off for the season.
