Beats & Triggers
Every round moves your balance, and where it finishes against your group’s line decides the round: a beat, a survive or a trigger.
Your balance and your line
Every period your balance starts at zero. Your score moves it every round: a good card pushes it up and a poor one pulls it down. Your own blunders and your mates’ raids push it down too, and side games move it both ways. Your group’s line sits the same distance above zero as below it, and your organiser sets it. The Beats and Triggers guide shows it in one short film.
Every round ends one of three ways
- Beat: your balance reaches the top line. You earn 3 GC points, the line comes off your balance, and anything over it carries over.
- Survive: the round crosses neither line. You earn 1 GC point, every round, not once a period.
- Trigger: your balance reaches the bottom line. You lose 3 GC points and you owe the pot. Your balance moves back up by the line, so anything past it carries on.
A round that finishes two full lines up is a double beat, worth 6. Two full lines down is a double trigger: it costs 6 and owes the pot twice. On a Double Flag round or at a Major, GC points double: a beat is worth 6, a survive 2, and a trigger costs 6.
The Danger Zone
A raid can’t trigger you on its own. If raids push you past the bottom line between rounds, you’re in the Danger Zone: the Board shows ☠️ Danger Zone beside your name on This Period, and Home shows You’re in the Danger Zone with what your next round needs. That round decides it. Finish back above the bottom line and you’re clear. Finish below it and you trigger.
When the period ends
If the period closes while you’re still in the Danger Zone, you’re triggered automatically, once for every full line you’re down. Then every balance goes back to zero for the next period. GC points carry on all season, and whoever has the most at the end is the Season Champion.
The Beats screen
Open More, then Beats.
- SEASON BEATS totals the group’s beats, the GC points they earned and how many players have beaten the line.
- History lists every beat round, newest first: who, when, the stableford, the Balance the round reached, the GC Pts and the Carry Over. A double beat shows as 2× BEAT.
- Wall of Fame ranks everyone who has beaten the line, most beats first.
- Tap Beat Settings at the bottom to see your group’s line and the beat rules.

Good to know
Is a survive once a period or every round?
Every round. Any round that crosses neither line is a survive and earns 1 GC point.
Can I be triggered without playing?
Only at the end of a period, if raids have left you in the Danger Zone. During the period a raid can only put you there, and your next round decides it.
Do I owe a mate when I trigger?
No. A trigger means you owe the pot, and the pot is your group’s trip pot. Losing to it is a deposit, not a transfer.
Can I beat more than once in a period?
Yes, and you can trigger more than once too. After each one you carry on from where the line left you.
