The Finals

The Finals is the season’s finale: a short run of rounds, usually on the trip, that crowns a Finals Champion beside the Season Champion.

Two champions

The Season Champion is decided on the GC Points ladder when the season ends. The Finals crowns a second title, the Finals Champion. Winning the season is worth a big stack of chips at Award Night, and chips decide the seeds, but the Finals is decided on the trip, and a Finals win never changes the season. Neither title is money: no prize and no buy-in, just names and points. See the Finals guide.

Who’s in

Your organiser starts the Finals from Group Settings once the season has ended. The field is seeded in Award Night order, highest chip count first. Anyone not making the trip is left out, and the seeds close up.

The rounds

The Finals is two to six rounds, one a day, each with its own date and course. Every round is a Major: the field is confirmed on the day and the tee-off order is read out. The Finals is also a fresh period, so balances and GC points start from zero. The Major doubling applies to those, never to Finals points.

Finals points

Each round scores twice. By default:

  • Individual: by net stableford finish, 10 for first, then 7, 5, 4, 3 and 2, and 1 for everyone else.
  • Pairs: 5 for the winning pair, 3 for second and 1 for the rest. The organiser picks Sixes, best ball or no pairs, and either sets the pairs each round, rotates them, or fixes them for the trip.

Before round 1 your seed gives you a head start in Finals points. On the standard setting with six players, it’s 5, 3, 2, 1, 0 and 0. Your total is your head start plus every round’s points. Players tied on a round share those places’ points. Miss a round and it scores zero. With an odd number, one player sits out the pairs and takes the average of the pairs points.

Following it

While the Finals is on, open More, then The Finals. Standings shows each player’s seed, their head start (Start), individual points (Ind), Pairs and Total. Rounds shows each round’s date, course, Major status and pairs. When it’s done, the organiser resolves it: the highest total is the Finals Champion. Level on points, the best single round wins, then the lower handicap, then a coin toss.

Good to know

Does the Season Champion win the Finals?

No. Their title is worth a big stack of chips at Award Night, which usually means a high seed, but the Finals is decided on the trip.

Is there a prize?

No. Both titles are names and points only.

What if there’s an odd number of us?

One player sits out the pairs each round and takes the average of the pairs points. When the app draws the pairs, whoever has sat out least sits out. With fixed partners it’s the same player every round.

Which handicap breaks a tie?

The one frozen when the Finals started. If your organiser didn’t freeze handicaps, a tie on the best round goes straight to the coin toss.

Does the Finals change the season?

No. The season’s standings stay as they ended. The Finals runs as its own period from zero.
